About Us

Founded in 2013, by Steve Kazemi, PureCultures signature products Flock Vitality® and Swine Vitality™ deliver prebiotics, probiotics and postbiotics, to support the growth and health of animals. These products meet consumer and industry demand to eliminate the over-use of antibiotics in production animals.

In 2020, PureCultures was acquired by the Canadian company CanBiocin Inc. and re-named PureCultures2020. Both companies share the same vision and passion for improving pet and livestock health through enhanced nutrition backed by science and focusing on gut health.

In 2020 CanBiocin Inc. was added to the National Animal Supplement Council’s (NASC) Preferred Supplier Program as a carefully vetted supplier of species-specific probiotic ingredients for pet food and treats. To be accepted into the NASC Preferred Supplier Program, companies must meet a collection of benchmarks set by the organization. These include passing a third-party facility audit and demonstrating ongoing compliance in quality control, labelling guidelines, random product testing and other areas.

CEO

J.F. (Jake) Burlet D.V.M., M.B.A., ICD.D

Dr. Jake Burlet is the CEO of CanBiocin, a veterinarian, and serial entrepreneur with broad experience in private and international business. Jake has co-founded and overseen the management of a number of Canadian private companies.

Dr. Burlet has served in an executive capacity for a number of veterinary professional organizations. He has also been an advisor to two multi-national veterinary pharmaceutical companies.

CFO

Jason Theiss

Jason is an accomplished CFO with experience at industry-leading private and public companies. Jason specializes in identifying organizations to bring to the next level of achievement and plays a key role in their success through expertise in financial management, strategic financial planning, mergers and acquisitions, and regulatory compliance. Jason is a CPA, CA and holds a BBA Degree from the University of Regina.

Director of Sales

Sheri O'Brien

Sheri O'Brien is the Director of Sales at CanBiocin Inc. She graduated from the University of Manitoba with a major in Foods & Nutrition and minor in Management.

Sheri has over 20+ years of sales experience with various food companies. Sheri is excited to work with new and existing customers to bring probiotics to their products and formulations.

Director of Operations and Administrative Services

Bernadette Beadle

Bernadette is the Director of Administrative and Operation Services at CanBiocin Inc. She obtained a B.Sc. in Biological Sciences from the University of Alberta in 2002 and a B.Sc. in Cell Biology in 2005.

She has over 14 years of experience in both academic and ISO 17025 accredited laboratories. Bernadette has over 13 years of research experience in microbiology with a focus on food borne pathogens.

Accounting

Sherry Orich

Sherry brings to the team over 30 years of bookkeeping experience as a dedicated and detail-oriented accounting professional.

She is a QuickBooks Certified ProAdvisor and has extensive experience in QBO and Sage.

Before joining CanBiocin, Sherry owned and operated a successful sign business, overseeing 5 employees, for 19 years.

Quality Assurance Manager

Kausal Gopalkrishnan

Kausal works as a Quality Assurance Manager at Canbiocin Inc. She has a BSc. in Biology from the University of Alberta and is PMP certified.

She brings with her more than 10 years of experience working in a commercial ISO 17025 certified food safety laboratory including 5 years of managing the laboratory. She has also participated in a start-up lab gaining ISO accreditation.

Senior Scientist

Harland Brandon

Dr. Harland Brandon is a Senior Scientist at CanBiocin Inc. He has a Ph.D. in Biomolecular Science (2021) and a B.Sc. in Biochemistry (2013) from the University of Lethbridge.

He has over 12 years scientific experience in microbiology, protein/RNA biochemistry, and synthetic biology, in addition to having 5+ years experience managing a radioactive laboratory. Harland has actively been involved in the start-up of several science-based entrepreneurial endeavors over the past 10 years and is passionate about using science to bring about positive change in society.

Laboratory Technologist

Linh Dinh

Linh works as a Laboratory Technician at CanBiocin Inc. She obtained a B.Sc. in Nutrition and Food Science from the University of Alberta in 2022.

Linh is excited for her passion for nutrition and animal health to transpire through the probiotics that CanBiocin's ISO certified lab study and develop.

Laboratory Technologist

Daniel Glinski

Daniel works as a laboratory technologist at CanBiocin Inc. He graduated from the University of Connecticut in 2018 with his B.Sc in Molecular and Cellular Biology.

He is interested in microbiology and how the probiotic products CanBiocin Inc. develop and produce can impact both the companion animal and livestock worlds.

Jeff Norlin

Jeff works as a Laboratory Technologist for CanBiocin Inc. he graduated from the university of Alberta in 2019 with a B.Sc in biology with a specialization in Immunology and Infection

He is interested in the gut microbiome of livestock and how the Probiotics developed by CanBiocin Inc. can have a positive impact on the life and wellbeing of companion and livestock animals.
